The Houston Zoo provides a fun, unique, and inspirational experience fostering appreciation, knowledge, and care for the natural world.

Essentially a small city encompassing a world of ecosystems and experiences, the Houston Zoo is made up of many moving parts. We have over 6000 permanent residents (our animals) for whom we provide housing, meals, medical care and, yes, even education! 

The Houston Zoo is open year-round, and is only closed one day a year! Make sure to stop by the Plan Your Day kiosk upon arrival for information on special feedings, shows or enrichment activities that will take place during your time at the Zoo. Where else can you explore the flora and fauna of Africa, Asia, and Borneo...right in the middle of the city? 

Each year, 2.3 million guests take part in the wonder and magnificence of creatures big and small, from all over the globe, and learn ways in which they too can contribute to the protection and prosperity of the animals they get to know and love.  We host many school and other educational groups who are interested in learning about wildlife outside of the classroom.
